I visited El Calafate around 6-7 times since I lived in Argentina. Every time a different hotel to check out together with my family and friends. An honest and personal review.

My top choice hotels in El Calafate
Design Suites El Calafate
So far my favorite hotel in El Calafate is Design Suites. Located on the edge of the city but with a beautiful view of Lago Argentino. Is definitely worth getting the upgrade with a room with a view of the the lake.
On top of that, the rooms are clean, the bed is perfect and the bathroom has a bath/shower combination. The temperature is good to regulate. Which is important during the cold nights in Patagonia.
The hotel has a pool which I truly can recommend to use. Bath towels are provided by the hotel at the pool.
Every morning there is a continental breakfast with a magnificent view of the lake.
When staying there, it is recommended to have a rental car to get up and down to the hotel. Also, the hotel provides a shuttle but only twice per evening. Of course, you can always order a taxi at the reception.
CHECK AVAILABILITYLa Cantera Hotel Boutique Calafate
La Cantera Hotel Boutique is conveniently located in the city center. Just a bit uphill, so it is quiet there during the night. The wooden look from the outside was already very nice to see.
The hospitality was super as also the rooms. Spacious standard rooms with a bath/shower combo. It felt from the first moment a warm and cozy atmosphere. A hotel where you come to rest and can enjoy the evening.
The breakfast was good with ham and cheese, bread, yogurt and fruit. Perfect to start the day.
La Cantera Hotel Boutique is often fully booked. So you need to book really in advance.

Hotel Mirador del Lago
Hotel Mirador del Lago is a four-star hotel located on the main avenue of El Calafate. The closer you cannot be to the city center. Perfect when we went out for dinner and walked back to the hotel.
I had a feeling of an old-style Swiss hotel like in the Alps. Good temperature control in the room and in the morning the breakfast was just perfect with local sweets, bread, and many other things.
For me, the location is very handy. Therefore the third place as a best choice hotel in El Calafate.
CHECK AVAILABILITYTerraza Coirones
My very first stay in El Calafate was in the family-owned hotel Terraza Coirones. A four-star hotel located with a view of Lago Argentino. It was a bit of an old-style hotel but all was very clean and well maintained. Bed was good and loved the hot showers of a day of hiking.
The hospitality here was one of the best so far in El Calafate. The receptionist was eager to explain things about the city and gave us some tips.
The breakfast was good and in general, nothing to complain about.
The hotel is located on the edge of the city. You need to take a taxi or rental car to get to the city center.
CHECK AVAILABILITYXelena Hotel & Suites
This hotel was my only five-star hotel experience in El Calafate. One of the main highlights of the Xelena Hotel is the pool with the view of the beautiful blue lake.
Clean rooms but I expected a bit more comfort for a five-star hotel. A classic look and feel.
I surely recommend this hotel if you are looking for a spa experience in El Calafate. Also, the restaurant in Xelena was good. Just perfect if you want to stay in the hotel.
